Gift giving is an art and everyone on the list of givers is always on the look out for the perfect gift as well as the perfectly affordable gift. There are places, times and ways to find great gifts at a discount price for savings that allows your budget to smile instead of scream.
Great discount gifts can be found anywhere from the largest stores, strangest and small stores everywhere. As we look from place to place with creative open minds you’ll still wish you had more money for the gift you would love to receive.

One of the largest stores for discount gifts is our all favorite Wal Mart store. But for further savings check out the discounted isle and you’ll find everything from beautiful serving dishes for the hostess to tool sets for the man on your list. Every Wal Mart has a discount isle as well as mark downs on many items in the rest of the store.
If you check the online Wal Mart site you’ll find further coupons for items in the store closest to you and special sales for online orders only. If you find something you really like but it’s out of your budget ask for a store manager and present a request for a discount. Most of the time you can get as much as 10% to 25% off most items not already on sale.

Check locally in gift shops that specialize in consignment art work. You will be supporting your own home town merchants and artist as well as finding something of great value at a local price. If you can find the artist contact them and ask for a lower purchase price without going through the consignment store. This will eliminate the percentage cut giving you the edge on a lower price.
End of season and after holiday sales are one of the greatest times for discount gift items you can put away for later or use right away. Christmas is a big season for gifts but when the season is over and the store is left with large back stocks they begin to mark them down at incredible prices. Many Christmas items can be used as gifts any time during the year. Such as glass wear, tee shirts, books, bathing gift packages, makeup kits and much more. Since they want to get rid of all items as soon as possible they same applies asking for a further discount on an item you love.

But don’t forget the other times of the year when so much merchandise is marked down. Easter will provide you with glass rabbits, chicks and treats to put into baskets as grouping gifts. End of season sales on summer items such as clothing, swimming toys, outdoor sports items, hats, purses and certain types of food. End of winter will provide mittens, gloves, hats, coats, sweaters in an array of colors and winter fun such as snow boards, skies and sleds.
Now for a more unique approach to discount gifts. Michael’s is a large craft store where you can purchase products to make your own gifts. But they also sale lots of ready made items and are providing coupons in newspapers and with receipts after each purchase. Many times the discounts can be as much as 20% to 75% off items. Be sure to ask about any out of season display items that go in the trash as the end of a sale.

Always check out your local dollar store for gifts. They carry every thing from fake flowers and foliage to books and serving dishes. They have children’s toys and baby gifts as well as items for special occasions like graduation and valentines day.
Don’t forget thrift stores who provide support services to the community. Many times they have new items that have been donated and the prices are low enough for even the most budget wise shopper. Many thrift store now offer a consignment section for better merchandise or for merchandise the seller wishes to make a little money on while cleaning out their home closet’s.
You now have an array of wonderful places to shop for the perfect gift. Sometimes you’ll have to ask for a little more and other times you will find items for free. It doesn’t matter how much the item cost, but how perfect it is for the person you are giving it too.
